I just got a turbolid in the mail. FWIW, here is my initial reaction. Certainly easy to install on a Special 20 -- less time installing than removing the original coverplates. (I was irked by the directions saying to "discard" the original cover plates! -- I didn't.) It seems to fit perfectly -- no movement of the harp inside the turbolid. When I played it briefly through an amp, it seemed to bring the trebles (and some punch) down. I guess that could be said for the brief acoustic playing as well, but it stood out more to me amplified. (It's on an A right now, maybe that characteristic would work well for a higher pitch harp?)
I'm thinking it might be a good idea in a rack. Being larger than stock cover plates, it creates something of a cup by itself. This may be unnecessary if you are cupping with your hands, but it might just give a nice tonal change for rack playing (haven't tried it -- the fact that it has a rounded contour might make it less stable in a rack -- don't know.) BTW, the rounded contour feels good.
I'm certainly curious to mess around with it more (and it's not expensive -- especially just getting one for experimenting). I like the idea of having another sound option to select at any given moment (but I'm not yet convinced that the sound options are that different from what can be done with hands).
As I said, this is just a very initial reaction (hopefully not completely useless!).
